Agnes Emilia Carlsson (born March 6, 1988, in Vänersborg, Sweden), also known mononymously as Agnes, is a Swedish pop singer who rose to fame as the winner of Idol 2005 the second season of the Swedish Idol series. She has since gone on to be one of Sweden's most popular and best-selling female singers, selling over 180,000 albums in her home country alone.

In mid-2009 she became the first Idol contestant to receive an international launch, with the singles from her third album Dance Love Pop being released in 35 countries worldwide. Her first international single, "Release Me", has sold over 700,000 copies worldwide to date. Agnes' influences include Beyoncé Knowles, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson and Robyn.

Carlsson was born in Vänersborg, Sweden on March 6, 1988, and began singing at a very young age. She sang solo in front of a live audience for the first time whilst still at school. She also sang in the Vänersborg choir named 'Voice', citing legendary American singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder as her inspiration.

Agnes made her first appearance outside of Europe in late July after being signed by Warner Music in Australia and with "Release Me" as the first single, entering the Australian Dance Chart at eleven in its first week of release. Later in July the major American record company Geffen Records announced that they too had signed Agnes and would release "Release Me" in the US on August 18, 2009.

Agnes won the nomination for Sweden's Best Act for the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards and was also nominated for an award at MP3 Music Award 2009 for the HDT Award - House/Dance/Trance in the UK.

The MP3 Music Awards 2009 Winners were announced on the 5th November, which was the same day MTV Europe Music Awards was held in Berlin. Anges beat both Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone and David Guetta Featuring Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over by public vote. She also received the highest votes in her category via MMA's voting lines and Judging Jukebox Player, which allows fans and online users from around the world to rate and vote for their favourite artist or band. The 2009 HDT Award Winner - Agnes Carlsson - Release Me.

During the same year Agnes released three singles in different parts of the world. Release Me continues to conquer the U.S. followed by, two new singles.
